Sterling by Music Man has added a short-scale option to the StingRay bass lineup with the RAY SS4, built around a 30″scale for players who want a more compact, lower-tension feel without stepping away from the StingRay’s signature sound and looks.
The body is Nyatoh, finished here in Charging Green and dressed with a white pearloid pickguard. It’s paired with a Roasted Maple neck featuring a 9.5-inch radius, 22 medium frets, and a Rosewood fingerboard with white dot markers. The neck measures 1.5″ at the nut and 2.44″ at the last fret, and attaches via a 6-bolt pattern with a dual-action truss rod for stability.
At the headstock, open-gear tuners handle tuning duties, while the body carries a Sterling by Music Man-designed bridge for intonation and sustain. The RAY SS4 ships strung with Ernie Ball 2852 Regular Slinky Short Scale Bass strings.
Electronics center on a single Sterling by Music Man-designed neodymium humbucking pickup, run through passive electronics with a 3-way rotary selector offering parallel, true single-coil, and series modes for a range of tonal options from one pickup. Controls consist of a push/push volume knob with a 12dB boost for extra punch when needed, plus a standard tone control.
