Have you ever wondered what Archspire would do with the 2024 track “APT.” by Rosé and Bruno Mars? Me either! But clearly someone at Musora did, and now we’ve got Archspire delivering a rapid-fire tech death rendition of a pop track. It’s exactly as insane as you think it is, and… not exactly identifiable as the original either. Not that I expected that.
On how close they got to actually making “APT.” an Archspire song, bassist Jared Smith weighed in at the end: “I’m not sure if we made it quite as dark as we might like to, but the technique I think is there.”
The band then gave themselves a solid seven out of 10 for the cover, which is at least honest. Archspire also nominated either Plini or Igorrr for the same Musora challenge (but obviously a different song).
“What happens when one of the fastest, most technically insane death metal bands on the planet is forced to cover one of the biggest pop songs?” wrote Musora of the cover.
“The result is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds. Watch as we put the band on the spot to dissect every melody, rhythm, and hook from the original track before rebuilding it with blast beats, impossible guitar and bass runs, machine-gun vocals, and the kind of musicianship that makes us question reality.”
