PRS Goes Full Modern With the New Tekton Guitar Family

PRS is making a pretty substantial move into the modern guitar world with the Tekton, an entirely new family of bolt-on guitars aimed squarely at technical players.

The lineup consists of four models: the hardtail Tekton, two-point tremolo-equipped Tekton T, Floyd Rose-equipped Tekton “Floyd,” and seven-string Tekton SVN. All four introduce a new lightweight body shape alongside the thinnest body and neck PRS has offered on a standard-production guitar.

The new shape lands somewhere between the PRS Custom 24 and offset Vela, complete with an exaggerated scoop for upper-fret access and a belly carve. The Tekton, Tekton T, and Tekton SVN pair highly figured Mango tops with Mahogany backs, while the Tekton “Floyd” uses an all-Alder body.

Each model features a Maple neck with a near-D profile, Indian Ebony fingerboard, 16-inch radius, stainless steel frets, offset dot inlays, and Luminlay side dots. PRS has also reinforced the necks with Hormigo strength rods for increased stability and rigidity.

PRS widened the string spacing compared to its traditional designs as well, matching the spacing found on the Silver Sky and Fiore. According to PRS, the additional room is intended to help with sweeping arpeggios and more precise pick attack.

Then there are the new PRS Stylus pickups. Developed specifically for the Tekton family, the Alnico 5 humbuckers have a flatter output than many traditional humbuckers while retaining some character. They’re designed to maintain clarity and note definition under high gain and work equally well with traditional amps, modelers, and recording rigs.

“This is not just introducing a new model. We are planting a flag for a whole new family of guitars,” said PRS Director of Sales Jim Cullen.

Shop the PRS Tekton series right here, starting at $2,899.99 (which I don’t think is going to surprise anyone).
