Music videos can be a seriously rad companion for seriously rad songs – the one for “Hexes” being no exception – but there’s just something beyond about live, in-studio performances. TesseracT are no strangers to simply stunning live captures like this one, having previously done similar productions for both One and Altered State over the years. For this cut from 2015’s Polaris, the band journeyed to Metropolis Studios in the UK (where they actually recorded One once upon a time) to play through one of the finest tracks on the record: “Hexes.” Of course, it wouldn’t have been complete without the song’s featured artist, Martin Grech, joining them for an authentic reiteration of the track.
According to bassist Amos Williams,
“Metropolis Studios is where TesseracT recorded a large bulk of our first album, One. Being able to return six years later and perform some our most recent material was a great experience. We were lucky enough to be able to get Martin Grech into the studio with us to perform Hexes, too. It’s always good for a band to work in a studio with a world class room, gear, and preamps. It inspires you to try to take your music to another level somehow.
We also tried out a new monitoring system from Klang:Fabrik. They have designed a new setup that gives you the ability to monitor in 360, which was really very revealing for us, and one of those moments where you say to yourself: Ahh…our in ear monitors sound real again! “
Sure, you can call me biased for the fact that TesseracT are a major favorite of mine, but you seriously can’t deny how beautifully they nailed this performance. These guys are at the top of their game, and this video is a clear reflection of that.
