WITHERFALL – Track-By-Track Breakdown of Debut Album “Nocturnes and Requiems”

A couple weeks back, Gear Gods collaborated with Witherfall guitarist Jake Dreyer to release an exclusive playthrough of “What We Are Dying For” from Nocturnes and Requiems. Now that the debut LP has had some time to digest with listeners, Jake and singer Joseph Michael sat down for a track-by-track breakdown of each song on the record.

The duo, accompanied by wine, shed light on every song from conception to production. There are tons of interesting anecdotes about how Nocturnes and Requiems came about, including ones about the lyrical and thematic concepts behind certain songs, and approaches to tracking/production.

You can always learn quite a bit from behind-the-scenes discussions like these by having the chance to get inside the artists’ headspace. Like, you may not have thought to use an old fashioned American quarter dollar as a pick for an unconventional attack and brightness, but it’s totally viable and sounds wicked, man. See the conversation about “Act II” for what I’m referring to there.

You can view the complete YouTube video playlist for the track-by-track right here. Remember, Nocturnes and Requiems has been out since February 10th, so be sure to give it a proper spin. And don’t forget to stay in touch with everything Witherfall by simply clicking this.
