Charvel teamed up with Slipknot guitarist Jim Root to show off the Charvel American Neo-Classic SD-1 – made all the better with Slipknot’s “Duality” as the playthrough track.
The Charvel American Neo-Classic SD-1 pairs a classic Alder body with a Quartersawn Maple Speed Neck designed to recreate the feel of Charvel’s original 1980-era instruments. Graphite reinforcement improves stability, while rolled fingerboard edges give it a comfortably broken-in feel straight from the factory.
The Quartersawn Maple fingerboard features Charvel’s familiar 12″-16″ compound radius, offering comfortable chording near the nut and a flatter surface for faster lead playing higher up the neck.
Twenty-two jumbo stainless steel frets provide long-lasting durability, while Luminlay side dots improve visibility on dark stages. A heel-mounted truss rod adjustment wheel also makes setup tweaks quick and easy.
Electronics are handled by a proven Seymour Duncan pairing, with a JB TB-4 in the bridge for aggressive, harmonically rich tones and a ’59 SH-1N in the neck for warmer, vintage-inspired sounds. A five-way blade switch unlocks multiple humbucking and coil-split combinations, while a single low-friction EVH/Bourns volume control keeps the layout simple without sacrificing versatility.
Hardware includes a top-mounted Floyd Rose 1000 Series double-locking tremolo for rock-solid tuning during dive bombs and other extreme techniques, alongside Charvel-branded die-cast tuners and a locking nut for added stability.
Get the Charvel American Neo-Classic SD-1 for $2,799 (or $2,749 without the Floyd Rose) here at Sweetwater, here at Guitar Center, and here at Musician’s Friend.
