MixWave has partnered with guitarist and songwriter Yvette Young to create a new signature plugin suite. Designed to faithfully recreate the amps, pedals and effects that define her sound, MixWave: Yvette Young delivers a complete virtual rig tailored to players seeking everything from shimmering cleans and ambient textures to expressive modulation and explosive walls of fuzz.
MixWave: Yvette Young Recreates the Guitarist’s Signature Sound
At the heart of the suite is a hand-wired British-style combo amplifier model that serves as the foundation for many of Young’s most recognizable tones. Designed to deliver sparkling cleans, harmonically rich breakup and dynamic touch sensitivity, the amp responds naturally to changes in playing dynamics while maintaining the spacious character that has become synonymous with her work.
Complementing the amplifier is a cabinet section inspired by a matching British-style speaker enclosure. Users can choose between Alnico Blue and Greenback speaker configurations while accessing an extensive impulse response library captured at MixWave Studios. The cabinet module also includes 15 virtual microphones that can be positioned throughout the speaker environment, offering detailed control over the final recorded sound.
A Complete Collection of Effects for Ambient and Experimental Guitar Tones
The plugin’s effects section reflects the broad palette of sounds that Young employs throughout her music. A versatile drive pedal serves as the primary gain source, capable of moving from edge-of-breakup warmth to saturated distortion while offering multiple clipping options to tailor the response and feel.
An optical compressor provides smooth sustain and articulation without sacrificing dynamics, while a harmonic tremolo introduces everything from subtle movement to deep rhythmic modulation. A classic analog-inspired chorus supplies lush textures and dimensionality, making it well suited for clean passages and atmospheric soundscapes.
The suite also includes a lo-fi modulation effect inspired by vintage tape instability, capable of producing warped pitch fluctuations, drifting detune effects and unpredictable ambience. Meanwhile, an analog-style octave effect delivers thick low-octave tones and glitchy textures that add weight and complexity to single-note lines and chordal passages alike.
Signature Fuzz, Delay and Reverb Expand the Sonic Palette
One of the standout components of the collection is a highly responsive fuzz pedal modeled to react naturally to both picking dynamics and guitar volume changes. The effect can move from warm, sustaining saturation to broken, sputtering textures, making it equally useful for lead work and experimental sound design.
A dark analog delay model provides warm repeats and musical modulation, offering everything from subtle rhythmic enhancement to expansive ambient layering. Paired with an immersive ambient reverb inspired by large atmospheric spaces, the plugin is capable of generating everything from delicate room reflections to massive cinematic washes.
Built for Modern Recording and Production Workflows
Beyond the modeled gear itself, MixWave has incorporated a number of workflow-focused tools designed to streamline recording and production. Users can freely rearrange the signal chain, allowing effects and processing modules to be placed in any order to suit individual creative approaches.
Additional utility tools include pre- and post-effects EQ and compression, a built-in pitch transposition engine, dual Focus controls for smoothing harsh frequencies, a Contour EQ section for final tone shaping and a Vibe control designed to enhance upper harmonic content. A precision digital tuner is also included.
The software can be used as a standalone application or within a DAW via VST3, AU and AAX formats, making it suitable for both studio production and practice applications.
