Yes, it is a fad. Yes, like most trends on social media it’s evolved from murky origins, turned around and co-opted. But occasionally, maybe once per decade, the internet gives us something worth while. So who cares if that asshole friend of yours took part and didn’t actually donate any money to the cause? Who cares if originally the ice bucket was what you did in lieu of donating money? If we have to deal with some Facebook obnoxiousness to raise record levels of awareness and donations for ALS then that’s perfectly fine by me.
