ENGL has introduced the Savage 30, a compact 30-watt version of its long-running Savage high-gain amplifier with plenty of features for stage, studio, and lower-volume playing.
The Savage 30 offers Clean and Lead channels, each with its own Gain control. Gain Lo/Hi, Contour, and Depth Boost switches provide additional options for shaping the amp’s response, while both channels share Bass, Middle, and Treble EQ controls. There’s also a dedicated Lead Volume alongside global Presence and Master controls.
Under the hood are four ECC83 preamp tubes and a pair of EL34 power tubes. The Lead channel also gets an adjustable noise gate, with the threshold control located on the rear panel for keeping higher-gain settings under control.
ENGL has equipped the Savage 30 with a built-in Powersoak offering Full, Mid, Low, and Speaker Off settings. The latter completely silences the connected cabinet while allowing the amp to continue sending signal through its 0dB line output for silent recording.
Around the back, there’s a tube-buffered serial effects loop alongside speaker outputs supporting either one 8–16-ohm cabinet or two 16-ohm cabinets. Dual footswitch connections provide control over the gain switch and boost functions as well as ENGL’s Serial Amp Control system.
Basically, if you want the Savage sound without dealing with one of ENGL’s larger heads, the Savage 30 boils the concept down to 30 watts without stripping away much of the functionality.
