What is the Darkglass Anagram?
Developed in collaboration with Sweetwater (and Andertons), the special edition builds on the Finnish company’s flagship processor by introducing 11 exclusive guitar amp models and three additional effects, transforming what was already one of the most powerful bass modeling units on the market into a compelling option for six-string players as well.
At its core sits a Hexacore processor capable of delivering ultra-low latency alongside 32-bit/48kHz audio processing, enabling the unit to run as many as three Neural Amp Modeler profiles simultaneously with latency quoted at just 1.3 milliseconds.
Though the Anagram’s biggest selling point is its open approach to amp modeling. The processor features full compatibility with Neural Amp Modeler (NAM), allowing users to load community-created captures of amplifiers and drive pedals from the rapidly growing open-source ecosystem. Support for AIDA-X models further expands the available tonal palette.
Custom impulse responses can also be loaded directly into the unit, meaning bassists and guitarists alike can pair their favorite amp captures with virtually any cabinet simulation they choose.
Darkglass has also paired its powerful engine with a streamlined interface centered around a high-resolution color touchscreen. Instead of navigating endless pages of parameters, players can build presets using a drag-and-drop, block-based workflow that allows up to 12 processing blocks in series or as many as 24 blocks in parallel signal paths.
Six physical control knobs, inspired by Darkglass’ familiar six-band EQ layout, provide quick access to key parameters without relying exclusively on the touchscreen. Three footswitches support the processor’s three operating modes — Preset, Scene and Stomp — allowing players to tailor the unit’s workflow to different performance situations.
Anagram also functions as a comprehensive performance and recording hub. The unit includes an onboard looper, tuner, global parametric EQ, impulse response loader, tap tempo, mixer and stereo effects loop, with the latter doubling as an assignable expression pedal input for expanded control.
Connectivity
Thanks to Firmware 1.13, the processor also operates as a multichannel USB-C audio interface for both macOS and Windows, allowing players to record directly into a DAW without requiring additional hardware.
Darkglass has equipped the Anagram with an equally comprehensive I/O section. Stereo instrument inputs are joined by balanced XLR outputs, stereo quarter-inch outputs with selectable pre/post routing, MIDI connectivity, a headphone output and USB-C connectivity for both recording and power delivery.
The processor can be powered from a traditional 9V supply or via USB-C Power Delivery, providing additional flexibility for portable setups.
