A years-long legal dispute over the legacy of one of metal’s most iconic guitarists has taken a decisive turn.
According to a press release, a Florida court has granted summary judgment largely in favor of Armadillo Distribution Enterprises – the parent company of Dean Guitars – in its case against the trust representing the estate of Dimebag Darrell Abbott.
The ruling, issued by the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida on April 24, 2026, resolves the majority of claims brought by In Dime We Trust, which has been overseeing the late guitarist’s interests.
The conflict dates back to 2021, when the trust filed suit alleging that Dean Guitars failed to uphold key terms of its endorsement agreement with Dimebag Darrell. That relationship, originally formed in 2004, resulted in several signature models and a strong association between the brand and the Pantera guitarist’s unmistakable style.
The lawsuit included claims of breach of contract, trademark disputes, false endorsement, unfair competition, and violations of Florida’s deceptive trade practices laws, among others.
At the time, Rita Haney – who has long overseen Dimebag’s estate – announced the end of the partnership, citing concerns over how the guitarist’s legacy was being handled and alleging that attempts to resolve the dispute amicably had failed.
In its latest decision, the court granted summary judgment in favor of Armadillo on 11 of the 13 counts brought by the trust. Among the most significant outcomes was the dismissal of claims regarding ownership of key guitar designs and trademarks.
According to Armadillo, the ruling affirms its ownership of the Stealth and Razorback trademarks, as well as the Razorback guitar design itself – both defined as cornerstone elements of the company’s association with Dimebag’s legacy.
In a statement, Armadillo CEO Pamela Keris said the decision confirms what the company has “known all along,” citing years of prior use and “good faith commercial activity” tied to those intellectual properties.
