Built in Corona, CA, the guitars draw directly from the San Dimas instruments that helped establish Charvel’s reputation during the 1980s while incorporating modern features aimed at today’s players. The launch also marks a renewed focus on USA-made production, bringing one of the company’s most recognizable designs back to its California roots.

“Charvel was born in California and so was this guitar,” said Jon Romanowski, Vice President of Product at Charvel. “The American Neo-Classic San Dimas is a direct line back to where it all started – the shop, the craft and the obsession with making instruments that players actually want to play.”

The new series is available in two configurations: a Floyd Rose-equipped performance machine or a more traditional hardtail setup.

The SD1 HH FR MPL features a top-mounted Floyd Rose double-locking tremolo system designed for aggressive vibrato use while maintaining tuning stability. Meanwhile, the SD1 HH HT MPL opts for a Charvel hardtail bridge, prioritizing resonance, sustain and straightforward reliability. Both models share a streamlined control layout consisting of a single volume knob and a five-way blade switch.

Electronics are centered around one of the most popular pickup pairings in modern guitar history: a Seymour Duncan JB humbucker in the bridge position and a Seymour Duncan ’59 humbucker in the neck.

The neck-position ’59 is designed to provide warm, articulate clean tones and smooth lead sounds, while the higher-output JB delivers the punch, midrange cut and saturation you’re gonna need to bring the heat.

Visually, the guitars stay true to the colorful spirit of the original San Dimas era. The Floyd Rose-equipped model is offered in Robin’s Egg Blue, Ivory Blitz, Gloss Black and Racing Red. Players opting for the hardtail version can choose from Gloss Black, Racing Red, Velvet Midnight or Ivory Blitz.
