Catalinbread Gets Weird With the Cold One Distortion, Fuzz, and Glitch Pedal

Catalinbread is getting seriously weird with the new Cold One, a three-in-one distortion, fuzz, and glitch pedal inspired by a beloved dirt box from the mid-’90s.

The Cold One offers three distinct circuits that can be used individually or combined for varying levels of dirt-induced chaos. The Gain control handles the distortion side, ranging from lower-gain, amp-like crunch to thick walls of distortion.

Then there’s the Fuzz control, which can deliver everything from rough garage-rock sounds to heavier sludge tones. Combining the fuzz and distortion circuits naturally opens things up to even more saturated sounds.

Things get considerably stranger with the Glitch control. Rather than simply adding another flavor of fuzz, it blends between the Cold One’s core fuzz sound and glitchy, arpeggiated freakouts. Mixing that with the Gain and Fuzz controls means the pedal can move from fairly traditional dirt sounds into much less predictable territory.

The Cold One also features a Tone control for emphasizing higher or lower frequencies without completely changing the core character of the sound.

The pedal can be powered at either 9V or 18V and is inspired by a now-defunct ’90s dirt pedal most famously associated with Graham Coxon’s guitar solo on Blur’s “Coffee and TV.”

So if regular distortion and fuzz aren’t quite broken-sounding enough for you, Catalinbread has you covered. Get the Catalinbread Cold One here for $199.99.
