Steve Marks is here to show you the Doug Aldrich signature Blackstar DA100 Ruby (and also their DA412B cabinet) thanks to a very in-depth demo.
The DA100 Ruby is Doug Aldrich’s first ever signature amplifier, built around the HT Stage 100. The result is a 100-watt, three-channel EL34 head that covers everything from warm, responsive cleans to the kind of ripping, authoritative lead tones Doug has built his career on with The Dead Daisies, Whitesnake and Dio.

As mentioned, the DA100’s foundation draws from the HT Stage 100. The Clean channel delivers warmth and responsiveness, reacting dynamically to picking nuance and volume changes.
From there, the dual Overdrive channels take over, covering everything from classic crunch to full-throttle lead tones. A newly developed OD Voice – crafted specifically with Aldrich – channels a vintage, hot-rodded Plexi-style character with a modern edge.
Blackstar’s signature ISF control is present and accounted for, allowing players to shift between American and British tonal characteristics with a single sweep. Combined with power reduction options, the DA100 Ruby adapts easily from stage volume to more controlled environments.
One of the standout upgrades is the fully footswitchable Effects Loop. Controlled via the included 5-way footcontroller, it allows seamless integration of external effects during live performance.
But the real payoff comes through Blackstar’s Architect software, where players can fine-tune the “tail” behavior of effects when the loop is disengaged. The amp is paired with the Blackstar DA412B cabinet, loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.
The DA100 Ruby includes USB audio connectivity for direct recording and an XLR D.I. output with CabRig DSP speaker simulation, making it equally suited for silent stages and home studio setups.
