As guitarists living in an effects renaissance, when we decide we’re looking for a different tone, the first thing we think to do is to add a pedal to our board, or tweak a knob on our amp, or make a change to our modeler’s parameters. But there are several (at least 10) different things you can do without adding anything to your rig or changing anything about it at all – things you can do right now that will make your guitar sound drastically different, and maybe even inspire you to come up with some new licks.

I teamed up with my buddy and fellow YouTuber Robert Baker (with some guest appearances by Bon Jovi guitarist Phil X and YouTube review madman Henning Pauly) to show you 10 ways to modify your sound with just your hands and the guitar you already have (5 on Rob’s channel and 5 on Gear Gods). Try these and let me know what you think!

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
