NAMM 2016 – Dean Murphy’s Unconventional 8-String Performance

The 8 string guitar is both worshipped and reviled in equal parts, and always for the dumbest of reasons. But the usual complaint is that the players don’t use any strings but the lowest, and all they do is djent.

If this is your complaint, then I have one question for you – haaaaaave ya met Dean?

Dean Murphy tackles the 8 string guitar on the clean side of life, and his solo compositions are as unique as they are musical, with plenty of earworms to infect your brain with hooks. Check him out on his website or subscribe to him on YouTube for more.

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
