Behringer has introduced the Flow 4V, a compact field recorder designed for modern video production, livestreaming, filmmaking, and location recording. Combining four Midas microphone preamps with built-in mixing, 32-bit float recording, and extensive connectivity, the Flow 4V aims to simplify high-quality audio capture whether you’re working in the studio or out in the field.
At the heart of the Flow 4V are four Midas microphone preamps with phantom power and dual-stage A/D converters capable of delivering up to 138dB of dynamic range. Thanks to 32-bit float recording, users can capture everything from quiet dialogue to loud sound effects without worrying about clipping or manually adjusting analog gain levels.
The recorder supports up to 10-channel recording directly to an SD card or through its class-compliant USB interface. An integrated eight-channel mixer provides level, pan, low-cut, tone, high-cut, and dynamics controls, while an automixing function intelligently balances multiple microphone inputs using a gain-sharing algorithm. A pre-record buffer also helps prevent missed takes, and recordings can be automatically backed up to a connected USB drive for added redundancy.
The Flow 4V is equipped with features aimed squarely at professional production workflows. StageConnect support enables multichannel uncompressed audio transmission, while built-in SMPTE time-code generation makes synchronizing with cameras and other production gear straightforward. An auxiliary stereo input can also receive SMPTE clock signals to keep the recorder’s internal clock in sync.
Wireless functionality is included as well, with Bluetooth support allowing playback or talkback from a mobile device. HDMI connectivity enables the recorder to receive a camera’s video CEC signal, automatically triggering audio recording when filming begins.
Power options are equally flexible, with the Flow 4V able to run from StageConnect, USB-C, or the included power adapter. Behringer also plans to offer remote operation through the upcoming Flow 4V Mix app.
