ESP has recruited Spite guitarist Alex Tehrani to show off the LTD EXL-7 Baritone Black Metal with a playthrough of the band’s single “New World Killer.”
The EXL-7 takes LTD’s standard EX body shape and makes it slightly larger, giving the guitar a bigger physical presence while aiming for improved playing balance and a beefier overall tone. It’s paired with a 27-inch baritone scale designed for the lower tunings and increased string tension demanded by modern metal.
Construction-wise, the EXL-7 Baritone Black Metal features a Mahogany body with set-thru construction, a thin U-shaped three-piece Maple neck, and a Macassar Ebony fingerboard loaded with 24 extra-jumbo stainless steel frets. The whole thing comes finished in a pretty appropriately evil-looking Black Red Burst Satin.
Hardware includes LTD locking tuners and a TonePros locking TOM-style bridge and tailpiece, all finished in black.
The electronics are about as straightforward as you’d want from something clearly built to be heavy. The EXL-7 is equipped with a single Seymour Duncan MortalCoil seven-string active bridge pickup offering three separate voices, selectable using a three-way toggle.
