Squier is going for 12 with the signature 12-string Telecaster built for Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen – and modeled after one of Van Leeuwen’s personal Fender Custom Shop builds.
Van Leeuwen has spent over two decades shaping modern rock, from his early work in Failure to contributions on A Perfect Circle’s first two albums, and since 2002 as the second-longest-serving member of Queens of the Stone Age. That approach informed the design of his signature Telecaster XII, which pairs a lightweight Nyatoh body — chosen for warm, balanced tone and rich sustain — with a satin-finished Maple neck carved into a comfortable C profile.
The neck features a wide 1.6875″ nut for cleaner string spacing, an Indian Laurel fingerboard with a 9.5″ radius and 21 frets, and a 25.5″ scale length for the crisp, articulate response Telecaster players expect. A dedicated 12-string bridge supports both top-load and string-through stringing, letting players balance sustain against resonance.
Tone comes from a pair of Fender-designed Alnico single-coils, delivering the familiar cutting Telecaster bite doubled by the 12-string’s octave courses for added shimmer and harmonic density. Electronics stick to the standard Telecaster layout, with a Master Volume, Master Tone, and 3-way pickup switch.
Visually, the guitar is finished in an exclusive Copper Age gloss finish, paired with a custom Telecaster XII headstock, vintage-style tuners, and a four-ply tortoiseshell pickguard.
