I’m all about micing a bass amp, because personally I like a nice tube head with some gain on it. But for those of you who like a nice XLR for lining your signal in direct while shaping the tone, MXR have just expanded their range with this M81 Bass Preamp.
They’ve taken the larger M80 Bass D.I.+ and shrunk it down to the bare essentials. Removing the clean blend and dedicated distortion footswitch, as well as the parallel output. So you’re left with core tone shaping and a couple essential bells and whistles like pre/post EQ on the direct out, and a ground lift.
The Bass Preamp was announced a few months ago, but is hitting the stores now. You should see it for a street price of $169. Here’s the stats from MXR:
