Tosin Abasi Teaches You to Hammer, Pluck, and Tap

Everyone’s favorite guitar-hero-du-jour and Animal as Leaders proprietor Tosin Abasi’s chops are… well, probably nothing like yours. Although I’m not the biggest fan of their music, there is no way I’m going to sit here and argue that his technique is wholly unique. The guy takes concepts that are well established and familiar – sweeping, tapping, etc – and moves them into areas heretofore unexplored in heavy metal.

What I enjoy about Tosin’s playing is when he uses the guitar less as a guitar and more as a piano. Part of the way he achieves this is through tapping chords – as opposed to the more common Van Halen-styled single note tapping.
