KIMBRA Unleashes Funky, Avant-Garde Pop Art “Sweet Relief”

One of my favorite artists going today – regardless of genre – is Kimbra. The New Zealand ex-pat has been laying down killer tunes over the last few years, and her The Golden Echo album was one of my favorite albums of 2014. She’s an insanely talented singer who, by the stroke of pure talent and hard work, is also a phenomenal composer, audio engineer, producer, and more.

She’s also got tons of metal cred: in addition to growing up as a hardcore kid, her backing band used to play in a math rock band; she’s collaborated with The Dillinger Escape Plan‘s Ben Weinman and The Mars Volta‘s Omar Rodriguez-Lopez; and she’s always hanging around local metal shows in NYC.

Kimbra’s about to hit the studio to record her third album, but not before unveiling a gorgeous, wobbly funk track, “Sweet Relief.” I’m loving this tune, and it’s a perfect track to get your weekend kicked off early. Check it out below:
