Cannibal Corpse’s Alex Webster Geeks Out With Gear Gods

When you think of Cannibal Corpse, you think of some of the founding fathers of death metal, terrifying lyrical content, windmilling hair and guttural vocal delivery that defines the genre of no compromise. You probably wouldn’t immediately think of their in-depth knowledge of their instruments and signal chain, but I’m here to tell you that it’s within the realm of possibilities.

I got the chance to catch up with Alex Webster at Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Fest, and in chatting with him, discovered that with very little prompting, he could talk shop til we ran right the fuck out of time. Which was great for us, but I’m sure he had other interviews to get to, with magazines who want to ask him about how the tour is going so far, and how brutal is the new album really. Really very brutal or extremely super brutal? And what are you influences?

We skipped the surface bullshit and got straight into talking about his rig, both in the studio for recording the new album A Skeletal Domain and live for Mayhem. Check it out.

Sidenote: he’s totally wearing a t-shirt with Alex Rudinger’s face on it. Are they the new Ryan Gosling vs. Macaulay Culkin?

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
