Starting Today, CreativeLive’s Studio Pass With Joey Sturgis

It’s not often that I’m this excited to report news. Today through Friday, CreativeLive will play host to a free streaming recording class led by the highly successful producer Joey Sturgis and our spiritual leader/scene elder Sergeant D of MetalSucks and Stuff You Will Hate. You may better know Sturgis, the owner of Foundation Recording Studio, as producer and engineer for a number of big-time metalcore bands. His resume includes bands that, like em or not, have had major success over the last few years: Asking Alexandria, Oceano, Off Mice & Men, The Devil Wears Prada, Emmure, Born of Osiris, and more. He also made one of my favorite records of recent times, Chunk! No Captain Chunk!’s easycore classic Pardon My French (in the words of co-host Sergeant D, srs)

Whatever your feelings on the genre, it takes laser sharp recording skills and producing ability to create the kinds of albums that these bands make – especially the ones on the poppier end of the spectrum. I might even say its more crucial that all of you Entombedcore and blackened-math engineers pay attention to this. By stepping outside of your comfort zone, you might learn something!

  • I’d consider it if sergeant d weren’t involved. He’s just annoying.
