STRATOVARIUS – New Studio Documentary on the Making Of Eternal

In case you hadn’t heard, the original Finnish power metal heroes Stratovarius are coming out with a new album, Eternalon September 11th (same day as Slayer’s Repentless, although there’s probably not a whole hell of a lot of audience crossover there).

Although the title of the album doesn’t stray far from synonyms of things they’ve done in the past (an album called Infinite, songs called “Infinity” and “Forever”) they’ve changed a great deal recently, and the album reflects the new sound they’ve been honing since 2009’s Polaris. That’s when there was a huge changing of the guard, with the departure of longtime guitarist Timo Tolkki, who was replaced by Matias Kupiainen.

Matias, who also has been producing and engineering their albums, has upped their guitar game considerably, and he can be seen throughout this doc as the man behind the board as well as the guitar.

It’s a cool little look into the Stratovarius recording and creative process, and holy shit does Jens Johansson look insane. I want to hang out with him so bad.

Pre-order Eternal on iTunes.

I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
