BRUTAI’s “Onyx” Bass Playthrough – Slappened, Not Stirred

Christian Sturgess may be the new guy in Brutai, but he’s clearly not new to the bass guitar. In this playthrough, he slaps and grooves his way through their song “Onyx”, from their eponymous 2013 EP, like a seasoned pro. He looks so relaxed, he could be doing his taxes at the same time.

Here’s what he’s playing on this:

Dingwall Combustion NG2

Dingwall Custom Nickel Strings, .045″ .055″ .080″ .100″ .130″

Planet Waves Cables

Focusrite 2i2 interface through x2 Yamaha HS5 studio monitors, running Studio One Professional on an MSI Stealth Pro GS70.

And if you want to hear some new material from the band, here’s their new single “Deep”:

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.

  • Is this gonna be another one of those bass playthroughs that are sold like they’re some great player but really poorly playing some fairly lackluster stuff, or does this guy do something more than root and follow guitars?
