Caparison 8 String – Played with a Comb – by Mattias “IA” Eklundh

It’s true. The extended range guitar is having it’s day (year) in the sun. There will most certainly be a backlash (maybe that was the djentstick?) and the pendulum will swing the other way, but right now, it’s the bee’s knees, and don’t you forget it. It seems that every guitar company is making 8-strings now, and at NAMM this year many companies debuted their production 9s, but I wouldn’t have expected Caparison, who makes mostly shred machines, to be jumping on the djentwagon.

Regardless, they have released this video today, with one of the most innovative guitarists around – Mattias “IA” Eklundh of the Swedish band Freak Kitchen – playing what must be a prototype or custom model 8 string guitar. Eklundh already has a signature line through Caparison (the Apple Horn series) which are also available with True Temperament frets like the 8 string in this video.

No word yet as to whether we can expect to see a production model anytime soon.
