Of all the big drum companies at NAMM, I was most excited to check out some of the new stuff from Mapex and Sonor. Which included signature drums from a number of big-time metal drummers, including Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden, Chris Adler of Lamb of God, and Matt Halpern of Periphery.
Matt’s signature snare drum, the Wraith, debuted last year, but I hadn’t gotten to see and hear one in person yet. It’s a cool piece of drum design, including some pretty unique vent holes that are meant to dry out the sound of the drum, allowing more room for subtlety in playing.
