Meet NYANGO STARR, An Apple-Shaped Japanese Metal Drummer

Nyango Star (にゃんごすたー) is an apple-shaped mascot for the Aomori Prefecture in Japan. Nyango LOVES to play heavy metal drums – but is equally comfortable playing both Slipknot, Babymetal, X-Japan, and anime theme songs. Move over, Viscera Infest.

Nyango’s been making headlines this week after tearing things up at a local shopping center with a performance of Anpanman’s March, the theme from the popular Japanese kid’s show Soreike! Anpanman. Astute drummers will notice a few technical quirks in Nyango’s performance. Watch it here, and check out some more of Nyango’s fantastic drumming here.
