OPETH Studio Report Episode 6 – Fredrik Åkesson Talks Heavier Tones, Pedals, Amp Choices For New Album SORCERESS

Opeth guitarist Fredrik Åkesson is the subject of the next episode in the Sorceress studio report series. He talks about much of what they used in the studio to get the tones for their forthcoming album (out September 30th), including some Marshall Amps, Dunlop/MXR/Way Huge pedal gear, and different guitars.

I really like the idea of them using some heavier tones than what was on the last two albums, for a bit of a fusion between their cool prog stuff and their older sound. I can appreciate that they’re never going back to death metal, but a nice middle ground could suit them well. Either way, the album drop can’t get here soon enough!
