Watch an SM58 Get Crushed, Drowned, and Cooked For Science

The folks at Musician’s Friend wanted to see what a Shure SM58 microphone would endure and still produce sound, so they put it through three different torture tests – going for a swim in the ocean, being run over with a truck, and being barbecued on a grill.

The results are, unsurprisingly, that the mic takes a beating well.

Has Stone Cold Steve Austin really fallen this far?

I would have liked to hear the ocean mic after it dried out, to support his claims that it would have sounded “good as new”, but man is it fun to watch that thing go spinning into the ocean!

As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.
