Either way, we’re here for you in the first installment of Dear Gods, an advice column/question and answer series where we tell you what you wanna know! As Editor-in-Chief of Gear Gods, I've been feeding your sick instrument fetishism and trying unsuccessfully to hide my own since 2013. I studied music on both coasts (Berklee and SSU) and now I'm just trying to put my degree to some use. That's a music degree, not an English one. I'm sure you noticed.

  • First off I would like to say I really enjoy the work Gear Gods does. Second, how should I start acquiring recording equipment? Just looking to get something going so I can record at home and do the one man band thing. Thank you!!

Look into getting yourself an audio interface, say something like a focusrite 2i4 (doesnt have to be this one, was just using it for reference) and a mic. An Sm57 makes a good first mic because it is great for so many things.
